Vindhyachal Temple

Important pilgrimage site of the Indian religion Vindhyachal Temple, popularly called Vindhyachal Dham, is located in the Mirzapur district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. The presiding deity of Vindhyachal Temple, Mirzapur, Maa Vindhyavasini is also known as Vindhyachal Mai. Maa Vindhyavasini is considered to be an embodiment of the omnipresent energetic Maa Durga and is the family goddess, protector goddess and regional goddess of eastern Uttar Pradesh as well as Bihar. Hindus believe that after visiting the temple of Mother Vindhyachal Wali, one gets happiness and prosperity in life with her blessings. Mother Vindhyavasini is Mahishasura Mardini ( slayer of the demon Mahishasura) described in Durga Saptashati. Vindhyachal is located right on the banks of the Ganges River and lies between the two highly religious Hindu cities of Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) and Kashi (Varanasi). Mirzapur district, in which Vindhyachal is located, is surrounded by natural beauty and is located at a distance of about 60 km from Varanasi and Prayagraj. The average altitude of this city is 265 feet or 80 meters above sea level. According to the Central Statistical Organisation, Mirzapur district has an area of 4521 km² and recorded a population of over 1 million in the 2001 census. Sandstone, red sand, and ordinary sand are mined in abundance in this city known as Mirzapur.
